Life after OB

Meg Ryan, current OB Course Design Manager and past OB instructor, shares with us what really goes on during staff training at Outward Bound NZ. And you’ll be happy to hear that yes, even OB instructors get scared!

Wellingtonian Breanna Ward swam the Strait in 7hours 26mins on Saturday 1st December, 2018 to raise funds for the Outward Bound Champion programme. We caught up with Breanna to chat about the swim and what she's planning next.

While most university students tend to relax after finishing their exams, one OB Alumni has strapped on her tramping pack and is currently on a 75-day walk of the South Island. Check out her inspiring story here.

Twelve years ago Southland's Julia Colhoun was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, but she has not let that stand in the way of taking on various challenges. Julia recently returned to Anakiwa to take part in our Activate course.

Hi, I'm Taylor and my life has changed completely in just a few months. I’ve gone from being on the benefit, spending my time drinking with no direction in life, to having a great job that gives me a real sense of purpose and pride.

Outward Bound had such a positive impact on Breanna's life that she wants other people to have the opportunity to experience OB too. In the summer of 2018/2019 Breanna will be swimming the Cook Strait to fundraise for OB.

This is not a drill! Outward Bound is excited to announce a new partnership with No Duff, a New Zealand veteran support charity. In February 2019, 14 veterans will take part in the inaugural No Duff Outward Bound course.

After receiving a scholarship to attend Outward Bound, Danielle asked her community to help cover the remaining portion of her course fee and travel costs. Through Danielle's initiative and the generosity of her community, she was able to get to Outward Bound.

As Dick Hubbard steps down as a member of the Outward Bound NZ Board, he reflects on how the lessons he learned from attending a course in 1964 as a fresh-faced 18 year old saved the cereal company from collapse.
